3.23.1 Goals

4c79b5
2b5e61

The <tt>`trunk/Identity/Themes/Motifs'</tt> directory exists to:

2b5e61

2dc146
    2b5e61
  • Organize CentOS themes' artistic motifs.
  • 2dc146

    3.23.2 Description

    008ee0
    2b5e61

The artistic motif of theme is a graphic design component that

    2b5e61
provides the visual style of themes, it is used as pattern to connect
    2b5e61
all visual manifestations inside one unique theme.
    166893

    2b5e61

Artistic motifs are based on conceptual ideas. Conceptual ideas bring

    2b5e61
the motivation, they are fuel for the engines of human imagination.
    2b5e61
Good conceptual ideas may produce good motivation to produce almost
    2b5e61
anything, and art works don't escape from it.
    2b5e61

    2b5e61
    2b5e61
    <samp>`TreeFlower'</samp>
    2b5e61

CentOS like trees, has roots, trunk, branches, leaves and flowers. Day

    2b5e61
by day they work together in freedom, ruled by the laws of nature and
    2b5e61
open standards, to show the beauty of its existence.
    2b5e61

    2b5e61
    <samp>`Modern'</samp>
    2b5e61

Modern, squares and circles flowing up.

    2b5e61

    2b5e61
    2b5e61
    2b5e61

If you have new conceptual ideas for CentOS, then you can say that you

    2b5e61
want to create a new artistic motif for CentOS. To create a new
    2b5e61
artistic motif you need to create a directory under
    2b5e61
<tt>`Identity/Themes/Motifs/'</tt> using a name coherent with your
    2b5e61
conceptual idea. That name will be the name of your artistic motif. If
    2b5e61
possible, when creating new conceptual ideas for CentOS, think about
    2b5e61
what CentOS means for you, what does it makes you feel, take your
    2b5e61
time, think deep, and share; you can improve the idea as time goes on.
    2b5e61

    2b5e61

Once you have defined a name for your theme, you need to create the

    2b5e61
motif structure of your theme. The motif structure is the basic
    2b5e61
direcotry structure you'll use to work your ideas. Here is where you
    2b5e61
    organize your graphic design projects.
    2b5e61

    2b5e61

To add a new motif structure to CentOS Artwork Repository, you need to

    2b5e61
use the centos-art command line in the
    2b5e61
    <tt>`Identity/Themes/Motifs/'</tt> directory as described below:
    2b5e61

    2b5e61

    centos-art add --motif=ThemeName
    2b5e61
    2b5e61

The previous command will create the basic structure of themes for

    2b5e61
you. The basic structure produced by centos-art command is
    2b5e61
    illustrated in the following figure:

    3.23.3 Usage

    166893
    2b5e61

When designing artistic motifs for CentOS, consider the following

    2b5e61
    recommendations:
    2b5e61

    2b5e61
      2b5e61
    • Give a unique (case-sensitive) name to your Motif. This name is
    • 2b5e61
used as value wherever theme variable ($THEME) or translation marker
      2b5e61
(=THEME=) is. Optionally, you can add a description about
      2b5e61
inspiration and concepts behind your work.
      2b5e61
      2b5e61
    • Use the location <tt>`trunk/Identity/Themes/Motifs/$THEME/'</tt> to
    • 2b5e61
store your work. If it doesn't exist create it. Note that this require
      2b5e61
you to have previous commit access in CentOS Artwork Repository.
      2b5e61
      2b5e61
    • The CentOS Project is using the blue color (#204c8d) as base
    • 2b5e61
color for its corporate visual identity. Use such base corporate color
      2b5e61
information as much as possible in your artistic motif designs.
      2b5e61
      2b5e61
    • Try to make your design fit one of the theme models.
    • 2b5e61
      2b5e61
    • Feel free to make your art enterprise-level and beautiful.
    • 2b5e61
      2b5e61
    • Add the following information on your artwork (both in a visible
    • 2b5e61
      design area and document metadata):
      2b5e61
      2dc146
        2b5e61
      • The name (or logo) of your artistic motif.
      • 2b5e61
        2b5e61
      • The copyright sentence: Copyright (C) YEAR YOURNAME
      • 2b5e61
        2b5e61
      • The license under which the work is released. All CentOS Art
      • 2b5e61
        works are released under
